Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

Activity: Individual reading, viewing and writing - opening to a short story (View Activity…)

Students choose one or more elements from a selection of video extracts to use as the basis for the opening of a short story.


Activity: Individual reading and writing - selecting and analysing poems for an anthology (View Activity…)

Students recommend three poems for inclusion in a poetry anthology for Year 8. They write a response to each one, giving reasons for their recommendations.


Activity: Persuasive letter (View Activity…)

Students compose a persuasive letter to a potential tourist to Australia.


Activity: Life writing (View Activity…)

Students select a piece of their own writing for a life writing competition and evaluate the merits and appropriateness of the piece.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
