Appraisal of a dance performance
Description of activity
Students observe an excerpt of a dance work and write a critical response of about 300 words. In their response they provide:
- a detailed explanation using appropriate terminology of how the excerpt is successful in showing intent and style
- at least two examples of one or more elements of dance used in the performance. These elements include lighting, music, dancers, movement and costumes.
Context
Students have acquired a basic movement vocabulary and knowledge of elements of dance and have observed and described dance works. They have developed their skills of analysis of dance within social, cultural and historical contexts.

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- provide a detailed and accurate explanation of how an excerpt of a dance work shows the intent and style
- make reference to least two relevant examples of one or more elements of dance in their response
- present a well-structured response of about 300 words using appropriate terminology.
