Sam has demonstrated a very high level of competence in reading aloud. The reading is fluent and expressive with appropriate intonation, phrasing and emphasis. The delivery is confident and punctuation has been appropriately used. There is evidence of self-correcting and a demonstrated ability to decode unfamiliar words and make meaningful substitutions. Excellent comprehension of both texts is evident in the responses to the literal and inferential questions. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard midway through Stage 1.

Grade A

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
