Other Work Samples for:

Tai has demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of 2D shapes. Two common shapes have been correctly named but the identification and counting of angles is incorrect. Some lines of symmetry have been correctly identified and an attempt at explaining the symmetry of a circle has been made. Some mathematical language has been used but Tai would benefit from consolidating the concepts of symmetry and angles. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade D standard midway through Stage 2.

Grade D

The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.

Foundation Statement strands

The following strands are covered in this activity:

  • Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning.
  • Space and Geometry
Students name, describe and sketch particular 3D objects and 2D shapes. They compare angles using informal means and describe a 'right angle'. Students use coordinates to describe position and compass points to give and follow directions.
