Kerry has demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of the selected novel and a very high level of competence in oral presentation skills. Ideas, themes and issues have been effectively identified and interpreted, and characters, setting and plot have been described in great detail. The review is well structured and easy to follow with a personal opinion clearly conveyed through critical reflection. A very high level of competence is evident in the use of a variety of appropriate language features and conventions. Kerry has communicated ideas in an effective and persuasive manner. She spoke confidently and articulately with a strong sense of audience. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard at the end of Stage 3.

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.

  • Reading
    Students independently read and view an extensive range of complex texts and visual images using a comprehensive range of skills and strategies. They respond to themes and issues within texts, recognise point of view and justify interpretations by referring to their own knowledge and experience. Students identify, critically analyse and respond to techniques used by writers to influence readers through language and grammar. They identify text structure of a range of complex texts and explore how grammatical features work to influence an audience's understanding of written, visual and multimedia texts.
